Jazzy J: Old Skool House DJ & Music Enthusiast
Jazzy J first discovered his love for music at the age of 13 while listening to the Mike Allen Front Line Chart on Capital Radio. He was instantly captivated by Old Skool Electro classics like Jam On It, Pacman, The Smurf, Africa Bambaataa, The Soul Sonic Force, and iconic tracks from Tommy Boy Records.
Early Influences and Pirate Radio Days
As his passion grew, Jazzy J tuned into numerous pirate radio stations. His first was L.W.R on 92.5, where he enjoyed the legendary sounds of Tim Westwood and Jazzy M. He also regularly listened to Sunrise FM 88.75, Centreforce 88.3, Juice 94, Passion, Radio London, Kiss 94 FM, and drew inspiration from legends like Tony Blackburn, Steve Jackson, and Gordon Mac.
The Warehouse Acid House Scene
The Warehouse Acid House Scene defined Jazzy J’s youth. It was more than music—it was a lifestyle. From 1989 onwards, he spent nearly all his wages on vinyl records, sourcing rare and classic tracks from iconic shops like The Vinyl Zone, Bluebird Records, Black Market Records, and Red Records.
