BadBoyWest, a professional DJ, has been active on the DJ circuit since 1988, spinning a wide variety of music styles. That same year, Sunrise FM was founded by BadBoyWest alongside Judge Jimmy and Tony “Crucial” White, originally broadcasting via Citizen Band (CB) Radio.
Sunrise FM began testing on 88.75 FM in 1988, showcasing fresh new talent playing Dance and House music, while dedicating weekends to a more mature audience with Soul, R’n’B, and Reggae.
By 1989, Sunrise FM had gone fully 24/7, becoming one of the most popular stations on 88.75 FM, receiving over 500 listener letters per week. It was also the first station at the time equipped with a pager and a Motorola mobile phone.
BadBoyWest hosted the weekday morning breakfast show, setting the standard and pace for others. He was connected with many top events both in and outside London, alongside DJs like CJ Carlos, David Rodigan, Paul Anderson, and the late Steve Walsh.
For two consecutive years, Sunrise FM, led by BadBoyWest and crew, featured at the Soul Weekender at Camber Sands, Hastings, performing for crowds of over 2,000.
BadBoyWest also played a key role in helping launch other House and Dance music stations such as CentreForce, maintaining a long-term collaborative relationship.
